Rules of Motivation and Success

Motivation brings success and fortunes. Therefore we pay attention to motivation. If you are in a leadership role as a manager, chances are you are preoccupied with how to motivate others. We talk about motivation. We read about motivation. Most of us remember salient points about motivational theories. But are we motivated to do anything about it ? What can we do ? Can we motivate others ? No , we can not motivate others but we can create the conditions for others to motivate themselves

Seven Rules Of Motivation

1. Set a major goal, but follow a path. The path has mini goals that go in many directions. When you learn to succeed at mini goals, you will be motivated to challenge grand goals.

2. Finish what you start. A half finished project is of no use to anyone. Quitting is a habit. Develop the habit of finishing self-motivated projects.

3. Socialize with others of similar interest. Mutual support is motivating. We will develop the attitudes of our five bes t friends. If they are losers, we will be a loser. If they are winners, we will be a winner. To be a cowboy we must associate with cowboys.

4. Learn how to learn. Dependency on others for knowledge supports the habit of procrastination. Man has the ability to learn without instructors. In fact, when we learn the art of self-education we will find, if not create, opportunity to find success beyond our wildest dreams.

5. Harmonize natural talent with interest that motivates. Natural talent creates motivation, motivation creates persistence and persistence gets the job done.

6. Increase knowledge of subjects that inspires. The more we know about a subject, the more we want to learn about it. A self-propelled upward spiral develops.

7. Take risk. Failure and bouncing back are elements of motivation. Failure is a learning tool. No one has ever succeeded at anything worthwhile without a string of failures.

Motivation Lies With-in

The most important thing to keep in mind about motivation is that we cannot motivate others. Motivation comes from within-people motivate themselves. The only thing a supervisor, a manager, or anybody else can do is to create the conditions for people to motivate themselves

How To Motivate Ourself ?

Each of us have motivational hot spots. We need to keep this in mind while we try to create situations that motivate others. What motivates you or me may be different from what motivates someone else. Be careful. Don't force your motivation preferences on someone else. The safest way is to include all six motivational elements in your undertakings. That way you will connect with everyone's motivational hot spots.

AQ 3 - LEAD

In my previous post about Adversity Quotinet, I've explained CORE. Which are keys in measuring our AQ. Now I'm going to explain about LEAD. Which are techniques of how to improve our AQ.

L - Listen
Hear your own response when experiencing CORE. Learn and improve yourselves from past mistakes. Strengthen your weaknesses so you can overcome the mistake.

E - Explore
Find out problems where you feel responsible, but able to improve. Prioritize on improving those, especially the more important factors.

A - Analyze
Analyze the problem to counter negative thoughts. We need to correct our way of thinking into something positive. Find possibilities and opportunities in these times so we can achieve a higher goal.

D - Do
You can't achieve anything without doing. Buy you can't do anything without listening, exploring, or analyzing the situation first. After you can optimize the entire LEAD, success will be in your grasp. Which also means that your AQ has improved.

Be A Leader 2

Leaders are born from 2 factors:
1. Natural Talent
2. Life Experience
  • Failure in life
  • Crisis
  • Success through hardship
  • Life at home
  • etc.
Like I said in my previous post, most leaders are born from life experience. But the key to developing leadership skills doesn't exist in the experience, no matter how good or bad it is. The key exists in how the person respond to the experience. When people experience hardship, they could get scared and stop trying, or they could choose to learn from it and become stronger.

The identity needed to be a leader:
1. A leader needs to have influence
You don't need to try too hard to do this. Just by motivating others, you've already proven to have influence. Cheer your friends up when they're sad, give them help, advices and encouragement to continue on. Earn the trust of others, when things get tough, be the one to say, "Don't worry, we'll get through this." People will feel great around you, they'll believe in you. But make sure not to disappoint their trusts.

2. A leader needs to know his/her self
How can a person who doesn't know his/her own limits be able to lead anyone? First of all, you must know and understand your strengths and weaknesses. Share them with the people you trust.

What are you waiting for? Don't be passive, the best leaders are the active ones. It won't hurt for you to try becoming one.

Be A Leader 1

Why become a "leader"?
*Because the world is in a global leadership crisis.

Why is the world in a global leadership crisis?
These are some of the causing factors:
1. The lack of competence of the leader
2. Flawed character of leaders (power hungry)
3. Lack of Integrity
4. Leaders don't function in the same manner as they should be
5. Passiveness towards the leadership crisis

Are you a follower or a leader? If you're a follower, when are you going to take the next step in life? You're life won't progress for the better.

For example, save money and try running your own business. Are you just going to work under someone your entire life? Hoping you'll get a bonus or a raise, and avoiding getting fired until the day you retire. Or you can start your own business, you'll earn money even after you retire.

What are the benefits of becoming a leader?
1. You can take control of your own life
2. Inspire your teammates to sprint to the finish on an important project
3. Nurturing a corporate culture that engenders loyalty and retention
4. Inspire a classroom of students to become lifelong learners
5. Alternate way to make a living

I'm not saying that becoming a leader is an easy job. For some people, it takes effort and time. But you have to have patience and compassion to become a true leader.

How leaders are born:
  • Talent/Charisma 10%
  • Crisis 5%
  • Trained 85%
As you can see, only some leaders are born from talent or a crisis. Most have to train themselves to become leaders. Start training yourself if you want to make more out of life! It's never too late to learn becoming a leader.
